Koen van den Broek: Orange Border, 2001
Oil on canvas, 165 x 110 cm
Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp
At first sight, we seem to be dealing with a wholly abstract work with a diagonal composition and large, orange, grey and green planes. The title Orange border, waylays this thought and makes the viewer instantly recognise a banal reality: the pavement delineated by a border. The artist does not direct his gaze towards the more conventional horizon, but turns his gaze to the ground.
